Evans has been ‘absolutely devastated’ after suffering a fractured jaw and dislocated shoulder in the first day of training ahead of the upcoming UFC 208 fight card.
The Irish fighter was forced to stop training earlier this week after he broke his jaw during his first full body training session.
The fight with Anthony Johnson took place over three days, but Evans was forced off due to the injuries.
Evans said he had been ‘really gutted’.
“I can’t believe it.
I couldn’t believe what I had done,” Evans told Irish TV3’s “Alicia & Ryan”.”
I could barely lift my head.
I thought I was going to die.
It was a total shock.
I can’t put into words how gutted I am right now.”
Evans fractured his jaw and injured his shoulder during his training session on Thursday, leaving the UFC champion out of action for six months.
Evans’ injury was discovered just before midnight on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old’s manager John Gallagher confirmed the injury to Sky Sports.
“He’s completely gutted.
He’s devastated,” Gallagher told Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
Evons has not fought since June 2014, when he defeated Ben Askren via unanimous decision.
He has not competed since that fight since.
Evals latest setback came just days after his first UFC appearance in the United States.
Evans lost his title against Josh Thomson in December 2016 and has yet to win a UFC title.
